The crossing of the Atlantic, was not, without tragedy. On 10/2/42,the British cruiser Curacao, for some unknown reason, tried to cut across the path of the Queen Mary. Unable to avoid the accident, the Queen Mary, cut the British cruiser Curacao in half, with great loss of life on the cruiser. For security and morale reasons, the accident, did not became public knowledge, until after the war was over. The painting, is the artist, depiction of the accident. (Ed Orr collection)

Olen Medley of the 95th FS, was able to snap 2 photos of the British cruiser Curacao sinking. Olen did not have the film developed, for over 2 years, for fear of being court martialed, for taking the photos of the accident, as 'all' onboard the Queen Mary, had been sworin to secrecy.
